Modern science confirms that the close of the last glacial period was accompanied by extremely rapid episodes of ice loss and sea-level rise. The event known as Meltwater Pulse 1A, occurring roughly 14,500 to 14,600 years ago, drove global sea levels up by dozens of meters in a matter of centuries. The exact mechanics and regional origins of this surge remain an active subject of paleoclimatological research.

This does not prove a literal "Noah’s Flood" caused by Antarctica.

  • It does not state that ice triggered the deluge.

Therefore, any link drawn between Gilgamesh and Antarctica must be framed as a modern interpretation, not a literal translation of cuneiform script.

And it is precisely at this juncture that Zecharia Sitchin enters the discussion.

This theory was popularized by Charles Hapgood in his 1966 book, Maps of the Ancient Sea Kings.
